Fiesta de la Rosa del Azafran, Part II

The Saffron Festival offered much more than just the saffron harvesting contests (see my previous post). In the town of Consuegra, there was a street fair complete with stands where you could purchase saffron, and on the hill above town there were plays and dances taking place around the iconic windmills. I love photographing dancers in local costume. You can always be guaranteed a colorful display and a lot of joy. I don’t think these photos need much explaining so I’ll just leave it to them to do the talking:

Dancers had come from all over Spain and the costumes reflected the differences of the various regions. Watching the spectators was almost as much fun as watching the dancers.

Both evenings I spent in Consuegra, I spent photographing the windmills through sunset. I’ll share some of that experience in my next post. The crowds wandered away and I was left (mostly) by myself to enjoy the evening. With one exception…
