I’m so happy to report that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, I will be returning to the world of international travel in a little over a month from now. To say I’m excited about it would be a massive understatement.

When I flew home from Japan on December 12, 2019, I had no idea it would be nearly three years before I would venture beyond the borders of my home country again. Three years! And now, with travel on my horizon again, I’m realizing just how unprepared I am. I’ve forgotten so much about the rhythms and habits of traveling — and so much has changed as well. I’m now finding myself in the position of relearning and rethinking my travel routines.

With this return to travel, I’ll do my best to return to regular blogging. I’ll share my thoughts about how I want to travel differently now (more thoughtfully, I hope) and more efficiently. Since much of the equipment I travel with has been updated over the past few years, I’ll even be rethinking my packing processes. What to pack, what NOT to pack, and how to pack for a successful trip. Making bad packing choices can easily affect how much you enjoy your trip, or how successful a photography trip is. Leaving one cable or charger at home can be disastrous.

I know the drudgery of waiting for connecting flights, hauling bags through customs, and the seemingly endless hours spent in a cramped economy seat trying to sleep will quickly return to my consciousness but, for now, the whole experience is so exciting to me. I’ve missed it all.

More soon…

A view like this seems so exotic now.
