Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
Frank Gehry’s titanium-clad design for the Guggenheim rises above the Nervión River like an abstract ship. For such a large structure, it is full of movement. Appearing grey at times, golden at others, it offers a new visual experience from every angle, at every time of day. Inside, it allows the art to take center stage, but the building itself is always part of the show.

The Matter of Time. Richard Serra’s Snake (the three s-curved pieces of steel) was made for the inauguration of Bibao’s Guggenheim. Later came his Torqued Ellipses. Both are made of hot-rolled steel, an ode to Bilbao’s steel industry.
