Sorry to say it was another year with no international travel for me in 2024. I plan to change that in 2025 and get moving again.

Just about one month ago today I was flying home from my first trip of 2025. I flew to Madrid on New Year’s Eve, landing on New Year’s Day, and spent two weeks there and in Valencia, Spain. It was a different kind of trip — not hosted, no assignment — but it was a good opportunity to get back into the practice of traveling and photographing. I do get rusty when I stay home too long.
Not too much to say in this first post, but there will be more to come on more specific topics. For now, just enjoy a few photos from Valencia.
I had hoped to take small, fixed lens camera with me this trip (a Fuji X100vi) but they have been so back-ordered that I still haven’t received it now 5 months after ordering it. Instead, I tried to travel a bit lighter and go out most days with just one body (my Nikon D850) and a single prime lens (35mm, 55mm or 85mm). I also shot much more than usual with my iPhone, which worked well (as seen in the documentation of my “lunch” above) but I really missed the true camera-with-a-viewfinder experience.

SPECIAL SERIES ON THE WAY
I have also realized that 2025 is a bit of a landmark year. Not only is it the completion of the first quarter of this century, but it marks the 25th year of my push to do more international travel and photography. I have a series of posts planned looking back on those years and all of the places I went and things that I saw. Keep an eye out for that as well.
