San Martin de Trevejo

Lunch in San Martin de Trevejo

Picking up where we left off in the last post (about Robledillo de Gata), the next stop was a 5-course lunch at the “Uliveiras” restaurant of the Hospederia Conventual Sierra de Gata in San Martin de Trevejo. As previously mentioned, we were running late on this first day of our Extremadura press trip so the restaurant was very kind to work with our shifting schedule. In short, everything was excellent.

Located in a former convent (see photo above), the hotel and restaurant blend old and modern well. I remember our dining room having a full glass wall overlooking the rolling landscape.

NOTE: This visit took place in November of 2019, and I understand this restaurant has not yet reopened due to the pandemic. I’ll update this post once it has, as it is a wonderful stop when touring this part of Extremadura.

After the meal, our group took a short walk through stone-walled lanes, past fields filled with olive trees and sheep, and eventually into the center of San Martin de Trevejo. While still in the Sierra de Gata region, this town had more of the traditional Spanish feel to its architecture and layout than Robledillo de Gata had. Plants were everywhere, with pots surrounding nearly every door. It appeared to be a village well tended.

I would love to come back to this plaza some evening when the chairs are all out and people are enjoying dinner and drinks. I think the place would really come alive at night. It seems most places in Spain do.
