Extremadura, Spain: A Visual Guide

I have a new book out featuring the Extremadura region of Spain. This one is different from my “Journals of a Travel Photographer” series, in that it does not chronologically document a single trip. This book pulls from multiple trips I’ve made to Extremadura and the content is arranged thematically. There are spreads on different towns I’ve visited, Extremaduran foods, national parks, hotel options, and more. My hope is that this book will be more useful as a guide to those who want to visit Extremadura themselves. Rather than following my footsteps, this is a tool for charting your own path.

I’ll readily admit that this book is far from being a “complete” guide to Extremadura. It’s a book I’ve wanted to do for a while now, but I felt I still needed to do a couple more research trips before I could really feel I’d covered most of the things of interest to travelers. But, the pandemic struck and trips were postponed. After a few months of “wait and see,” I decided to go ahead with a “volume one” of my visual guide. Hopefully, when travel has somewhat normalized again, there will be a more complete volume two. There is still plenty of good info in volume one, though, so I hope you check it out.

Many thanks to all who have helped me gather the images and information found in this book. You’ve all been enormously welcoming and provided a wonderful introduction to what is now one of my favorite places on earth.

Visit my store on this site, or the page for this book on my Blurb bookstore for more information or to place an order.

Unlike my “Journals of a Travel Photographer” books, this guide includes a map and other general background information that will help those new to the region to understand its location within Spain, and the landscape that makes it unique.
This book also features sections on foods that are unique to Extremadura. Food will definitely be a memorable part of anyone’s travel in this region and I wanted to preview a little of what you might expect.
