I have a new book available in my Journals of a Travel Photographer series. For those unfamiliar, this is a series of books I’ve produced that chronicle one of my photo-gathering trips. They’re mostly chronological and give a glimpse into what these trips are like and what my process is for finding images.
This book is titled “Córdoba, Spain: Four days exploring Córdoba during the FLORA 2025 festival”. It varies a little from the previous books in the Journals series as it is the first I’ve produced using a new on-demand printing provider. I’ve used Blurb in the past but this time around I wanted to try out Lulu when I realized their pricing was much more affordable, allowing me to make these books available at a much lower price point. The format is a bit smaller (this book is 8.5″ square compared to the previous which were 9.5″ x 8″) but I’ve found that the print quality is very similar.
I have a couple more books queued up. I’ll stick with Lulu for awhile and see how things go. If the quality holds up, I may go back through my back catalog and re-issue a few of the oldies in this new format.
Córdoba, Spain:
Four days exploring Córdoba
during the FLORA 2025 festival
This particular book follows the four days I spent last Fall in Córdoba, Spain. The trip was arranged to coincide with the FLORA festival (which I wrote more about here) but also included a lot of touring of the traditional, year-round attractions in Córdoba. None of the Journals books are to be considered full travel guides, but are really visual diaries of my own particular experience. I do hope that these books will inspire others to visit these places for themselves, but these books aren’t full-featured planning guides by any means.
From the opening pages of the book, “It’s always a joy to visit and photograph Spain but when the trip coincides with a festival, my interest level rises even further. Spain knows how to throw a festival. Since 2017 the FLORA Festival has been held in Córdoba, Spain. Córdoba has long had a history of decorating courtyards with flowers and there is another festival—the Festival of the Patios—held each May that celebrates private courtyards with tours and a competition. The FLORA Festival invites five international artists to design plant-based installations for five public courtyards. I was invited to attend FLORA in 2025 and to tour and learn more about Córdoba during a four-day stay. I found the city to be charming and the festival enchanting. As part of the press pool I was able to spend some time with the participating artists and I was amazed by the camraderie among them. Even thought it was a juried competion, they were all very supportive of one another and were excited to get to see their competitors’ approaches to the theme. The theme for 2025 was “Future.” I can’t possibly cover everything Córdoba has to offer in these pages but I have attempted to capture the flavor of my experience. Certainly there are important sites that I’ve omitted, but only for the reason that my visit was brief. I hope you enjoy this book, an encapsulation of my time in this historic city. Many thanks to all who made this trip possible and to those I met along the way that made it so memorable. ”
Here are some sample spreads from the book:
This year’s FLORA festival (2026) is about to begin. The installations will be constructed October 12-15 and the exhibition and activities will take place from October 16 through the 22nd. This year’s theme is “Ephemeral”. If this book inspires you to visit, you’ll need to move quickly! It is an annual event, however, so there’s always next year. Or visit Córdoba anytime, really. You won’t be disappointed.

You can find this book in my site’s shop, or you can go directly to the Lulu store. If you want to see all of the books in this series, however, you’ll need to look in my shop. If you do buy a copy, and especially if you’ve bought any of my earlier books, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the quality of this Lulu title vs those available on Blurb. The cost savings to you is significant, but if you the buyer feels the quality is inferior, then perhaps the savings is not worth it. Thank you for any input you may have.
