Rounding up all my Gansu, China posts
I’ve just finished posting several posts from my trip to China’s Gansu Province in July of 2025. Since they are primarily a travelogue of that experience, I thought I’d post a series of links in case anyone wants to review them in order (Since it’s the very nature of a blog to present everything backwards, going back into history). I’ll also include some “behind the scenes” shots that didn’t find their way into the original posts.
Exploring China’s Silk Road and more:
- Beijing: Photographing the Forbidden City
- A morning at the market in Lanzhou, China
- Labrang Monastery in Xiahe, China
- Grasslands, mountains and monasteries
- Zhagana, the “stone box”
- Night market in Lanzhou, China
- Mati Temple Grottoes, Zhangye, China
- Danxia landorms, or “Rainbow Mountains,” near Zhangye
- Mogao Caves at Dunhuang, China
- Ancient Sounds of Dunhuang: Photographing live performances
- Yardang National Park and Yumen Pass
Below you’ll find a little behind the scenes bonus content. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks to the China National Tourism Office in LA for arranging this entire adventure. And especially for the added bonus of Business Class flights. What a difference a lie flat seat makes. If you can manage it, I highly recommend Air China’s service. Both the planes and the Business Class lounges were extremely comfortable.
